Northern lights

You can't book the northern lights.

But you can book the best seat for them: a bed facing north, 10 km from the city lights.

From your bed

Can you see the northern lights from the chalets?

Yes, you can see the northern lights in Rovaniemi. The season runs from late August to early April, and the best hours are usually 21:00–02:00 on clear nights. At Lapland Glow Chalets, 10 km from the city lights, every chalet has a panoramic window facing north, so you can watch for them from bed.

That is what the chalets were designed for. Every one has a large panoramic window facing north, towards the part of the sky where the northern lights appear, and they are 10 km from Rovaniemi, far enough that the city’s light doesn’t wash out the sky. We can’t guarantee the aurora, and nobody honestly can. We built the chalets so that, when it comes, you have the best possible chance of seeing it.

The season

When is the best time to see the northern lights in Finland?

September to March has the longest dark nights; late August and early April are possible. You need a clear sky and some solar activity, so several nights give you a better chance than one.

When it is cloudy

Go where the sky is clear

Some nights the cloud sits over Ollerovaara. The guided aurora hunt then drives to wherever the sky is clear, with no fixed mileage limit: €179 per person, 4–7 hours, pick-up at your chalet. If no aurora is seen, you choose a free second tour or a 75% refund.
