Which cookies this website uses, why, and how to change your choice at any time.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the browser's local storage, work in the same way. Some are needed for the website to work; others are used only if you accept them.
When you first visit, you choose which optional cookies to allow. Nothing optional is saved or loaded before you choose, and rejecting is as easy as accepting. You can change your choice at any time: , or use the link at the bottom of every page.
These make the website work and remember your cookie choice. They do not track you, and they do not need consent.
| Name | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| lg_consent (local storage) | Remembers your cookie choice, so we don't ask again on every page | 12 months |
| lgTonight2 (session storage) | Keeps tonight's northern lights forecast while you browse, so it doesn't reload on every page | Until you close the tab |
| elementor (local and session storage) | Elementor, the tool our pages are built with: remembers display settings for page elements. No tracking | Until you clear your browser data / close the tab |
| wpEmojiSettingsSupports (session storage) | WordPress: checks once whether your browser can show emoji | Until you close the tab |
| wordpress_*, wp-settings-* | Only for our staff when they log in to manage the website | Session, or up to one year |
The other plugins that run the website (WP Rocket, Yoast SEO, Site Kit by Google, Redirection) do not set cookies for visitors.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) to see how many people visit the website and which pages they read. We use the results to improve the site. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4, and we do not use the data to identify you.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells visits apart | 13 months (400 days) |
| _ga_923JVLXG1X | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit | 13 months (400 days) |
Google may process the data in the United States, under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. More: Google's privacy policy.
With your consent, we use Google Ads and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) to measure how our ads work and to show our ads to people who have visited our website. These cookies are set only if you accept marketing cookies. With marketing accepted, Google Analytics also uses Google signals, which connects to Google's advertising services (doubleclick.net) to measure ads across devices.
| Name | Provider | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|---|
| _gcl_au | Google Ads | Links a booking or enquiry to the ad that brought you here | 90 days |
| _gcl_ls (local storage) | Google Ads | The same as _gcl_au, kept in the browser's storage | Until you clear your browser data |
| _fbp | Meta | Measures our Facebook and Instagram ads and lets us show them to past visitors | 90 days |
More: how Google uses advertising cookies and Meta's cookie policy.
We use Google Consent Mode (v2). Until you accept analytics, no Google tag is loaded at all. Until you accept marketing, no advertising tag (Google Ads or Meta) is loaded either. Your choices for analytics (analytics_storage) and advertising (ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization) are passed to Google as you set them, and you can withdraw them at any time.
The northern lights forecast on our pages loads open data straight from your browser: cloud forecasts from the Finnish Meteorological Institute (Finland; Open-Meteo in Switzerland as a backup) and the aurora forecast from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (United States). Like any web request, this passes your IP address and browser details to those services. They set no cookies, and we send them nothing else.
Booking days out online. When you press a Book button on a day out, the booking calendar of our activity partner opens in a window over the page. It is run by Bókun (Iceland) for Oy Lapland Legacy Ltd and sets the cookies it needs for the booking. Nothing from Bókun loads before you press the button.
Our booking system (book.laplandglowhotel.fi, run by Vitec Hotellinx), Booking.com, Instagram, WhatsApp and Google Maps set their own cookies when you open them. Their own cookie and privacy policies apply.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data and what rights you have. Questions: info@laplandglowhotel.fi.
